The world at first came to know it by the name of LG Star because of its multicore mobile architecture. In MWC held this year in February LG Optimus 2X came out as world’s first NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual core smart phone. This congress also saw launch of a good range of dual-core smart phones such as Samsung Galaxy S2 and also HTC Sensation which came with 1.2GHz dual core processor and a changed version of HTC Sense. Hardware and Design:
The key feature that is being highlighted in this handset is Tegra 2 dual core processor coupled with a low-power GPU from NVIDIA. It also includes HDMI and dual display support which facilitates to see content on your Optimus 2X and on the nearest HDTV at the same time. There is a 1500mAh battery and also has slots for SIM card and microSD card.
The screen is standard WVGA 480 x 800 which is perfect for Android devices. The screen is dazzling, pulsating and creates a great impact when viewed straight on.
User Interface:
Any Android phone has to have multiple Home screens and there are 7 on Optimus 2X. The first Home screen has clock and weather widgets and also a flip clock similar to HTC’s. There are lots of widgets available in LG’s menu which includes different clocks and alarm clocks including analogue and digital, bookmarks, calendar, FM radio control.
With the help of Tegra 2 dual core processor one can easily navigate through the home screen. There is a notification bar on the top which quick options for turning on and off sound, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS.
Contacts and Calling:
With android you can have all your Google account contacts on your handset. Optimus 2X also includes social networking apps such as twitter, facebook, myspace and from these accounts you can import all your contacts to your device. On the top of the contact list there is a search box and an add button for adding new contacts. From there itself one can go to the call logs, contact groups and favourites.When you long press any contact in the main contact list you will be able to access many options. Optimus 2X supports HSPA data on 2100MHz network band.
Camera:
LG Optimus 2X has 8MP camera and can record 1080p HD video. It also has HDMI output capability. With 1.3MP front facing camera one can easily do video calling, it also includes a “Virtual Mirror” app which helps to fix hair or makeup.
Messaging:
With LG Optimus 2X one will experience good messaging capabilities. Apart from the SMS and email options, there are pre-loaded Twitter for LG and Facebook for LG apps for social networkers. You can also view threaded messages sent and received from one person in different colour coded bubbles. Email support includes POP, IMAP, Microsoft Exchange, and Gmail. For instant messaging you have Google’s Gtalk client pre-installed.
Apps:
LG Optimus 2X has numerous apps on the device. There is a collection of them which includes anti-malware scanners, Google's apps and social networking apps. Facebook page for LG feels like as if it has been made for the device. Clicking on any option will bring a new screen in front of within seconds. One can browse through over 1,00,000 apps available in the Android Market.
