Design and Looks

Its definitely not one of those sleek, slim smartphones that are doing the rounds in the mobile phone market. With 148 gm of weight and 11.3 mm thickness the device feels heavier and thicker when compared to two of the popular smartphones, Samsung Galaxy S2 and Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc.

Though design-wise, the device is not very much different from other HTC phones but the curved edges gives it a distinct look. The back of the phone is made of plastic and aluminium and has a great design. HTC Sensation may not be the thinnest or the lightest phone in the market but it is solid. Moreover, its a very comfortable device to hold in hand.

User Interface and Display
HTC Sensation uses an upgraded version of HTC Sense (3.0) UI which is used by the company in all the HTC smartphones. The handset runs on Android 2.3.3, which is the latest version of Google's Android OS. The company has introduced 3D scrolling in this handset. There are several other features that make HTC Sense 3.0 different and ahead of the previous versions.

Quick-lock screen is one of the firsts that HTC has come up with in this handset. With this screen, the phone can be unlocked simply by moving the central ring at bottom.

Its 4.3 inch S-LCD capacitive touchscreen with the resolution of 960x540 pixels gives excellent display. The rounded edges of the screen gives the device somewhat smaller look. The colour accuracy is one of the best, though when it comes to contrast, the display falls short of the one offered by the AMOLED screens.

Calling and Messaging:
The phone offers good call quality. We found the voice clear and audible in all environments. We also found the signal strength adequate at all times and at all the places. There is a noise reduction microphone that helps improve sound quality. Dialing any number is easy and fast as is accessing the contacts.

With all the messaging and email apps, messaging is a pleasurable experience. The onscreen keyboard is really good and accurate. The same keyboard can be used while typing emails and that makes emailing really fast. There were some minor problems but they can be ignored and don't really affect the messaging experience.

Internet
Surfing the internet on HTC Sensation proved to be a treat. Great resolution and dual-core processor combine to give you a great browsing experience. Fully integrated flash means you get a wholesome internet experience. With great flash support watching videos online is a treat. And not to mention its 4.3 inch screen that adds to the overall internet experience.

One hitch remains though. You can't open more than four windows at a time. This is something we feel, HTC should have done away with. We certainly had expected the dual-core processor to handle multiple windows. But overall, the device provides one of the fastest web browsing experience.

Camera
The 8 mega pixel camera of HTC Sensation comes with auto focus and dual-LED flash. The camera does a great job and the quality of the pictures clicked is excellent, especially in good lighting conditions. In bad light, no doubt the picture quality does get affected and there is some room for improvement and the Xenon flash would have made things a little better. However, the camera loads really fast and the pictures can be taken in less time as compared to other similar devices.

The camera can record videos at 1080p and the video quality is good. The video light can be used to enhance the video quality.

Music and Video
Music player works nicely. The good sound quality with headphones as well as with speakers will make music lovers happy. The good functionality of the music player makes it easier to select and play the songs of your choice. Video quality is also good and really sharp. The videos load easily and the picture quality is excellent. Though the video viewing experience would have improved if there was some separate video application.

The internal memory of the phone is 1 GB but with micro SD slot of 32 GB, you can easily store your favourite songs and videos. You also have access to Android market where you can search your favourite music.

Battery
The Li-Ion 1520 mAh battery works well and doesn't disappoint. With some power management, the battery can achieve the 495 minutes of talktime and 400hrs of standby time as claimed by the company. If you're using battery consuming features such as sat-nav, you'll be required to charge your phone much more often. Ultimately, the battery life depends on how much and what features you're using on your phone. With moderate usage, the battery shouldn't bother you.

Final Words
Everything said and done, HTC Sensation is one of the best, if not the best, smartphone around. Its huge screen, dual-core processor and solid body makes it a really powerful device. Awesome web-browsing experience and stylish looks makes it stand apart from other phones. HTC Sense user interface experience is better than any of the other HTC smartphones and we must say, it is the best.

The camera is good and not to forget the basics such as the good call quality and messaging. The phone does have its share of troubles, but with this device, HTC has definitely set high standards for others to emulate. We won't call the device perfect though. The 'perfect' smartphone is yet to come. And the way the company is going, it may just come from HTC.
