Design

Sony Xperia X10 Mini is the compact Android phone which is a much smaller version of the Xperia X10. It is incredibly the smallest handset around with its human curvature design intact. The dimensions of the phone are 83 x 50 x 16 mm and weight of 88 grams making it light but not as thin at 16mm of thickness.

On the front there is TFT capacitive touchscreen of 2.55 inches which gives out more than average screen quality what prefect details of each. However you can cannot see in the sunlight.

Below the display there are three sections revealing keys like Android Menu, home and Back. On the right there are volume keys with camera button. On the top there is lock/power key. Coming to the back you will find 5MP camera with loudspeaker, auto-focus and LED Flash.

All the keys are well structured and nice to feel. At the bottom there is standard micro-USB and 3.5mm jack. The phone is available in varied colours like white, silver, red, pink and lime.

Interface and Functionality

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini starts with the basics like importing contacts from the SIM card. You can also change the locales on your firmware which displays the UI in your own language by changing the locales which only takes few seconds.

There is customised Android user interface in the Xperia X10 Mini called UX which is a tweaked form of that found in Xperia X10 in order to fit in the small screen size of 2.55 inch screen. Since the screen is small only one widget is placed on a single page. There are four shortcuts which have been placed on the corners of the home-screen for easy approach.

UX exactly means better and improved user experience which can be achieved through integrated Social and media applications called Mediascape and Timescape. Only timescpe is present in X10 Mini which helps in aggregating your Facebook and Twitter updates along with the messages and even missed calls, however you can filter to see only the tweets. Moreover, you can combine online contacts with the phone-book to keep your social contacts just a tap away.

Main Menu can be obtained from below the home screen, it consists of all the apps which can be rearranged according to your liking on the four screen corners. Interface is smooth and fast with no lags at any point. The user interface is made especially for the small screen making it completely outstanding.

Messaging and Connectivity

Email is yet another high point of the user experience. With this you can view complete messages in full HTML. You can also view your messages in Gmail similar to that of desktop. Browser is speedy and much easier to scroll through. However there are few instances where you may find some issues like filling of forms and passwords. You tube plays the videos fine but there is no flash support.

For typing in the text messages there is numpad which slows down the typing speed. There is predictive text option but you can also download QWERTY keypad from the Android market. Still it is not of much use provided it is s capacitive screen. We definitely need Physical QWERTY keyboard to improve the typing speed.

Xperia X10 mini is the complete package phone with perfect synchronisation to make it easier to use just out of box.

Verdict

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro is a well designed compact phone with enhanced user experience with stellar user interface. This light weight and easy to carry smartphone is distinct from the rest of big smartphones available in market. It is unique in its looks with plethora of Android apps at disposal. Only problem of the phone is the lack of QWERTY keypad which is found in Xperia Pro. But for those who are looking for simple, compact and enjoyable phone, this won’t be a bad choice at all.
